The initiative was launched in June 2017 at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway, during a groundbreaking summit of religious leaders from Catholic, Evangelical, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, and Taoist traditions, as well as climate scientists, tropical forest experts, and representatives of indigenous peoples from Brazil, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Meso-America, and Peru.
